Colorado sunrises and sunsets

Back in 2020, I created a post to share some of my favorite sunrise and sunset photos. While all the photos in that post are still among the best sunrises and sunsets I’ve captured on camera, three years have passed since then and I’ve accumulated numerous additional sunrise and sunset photos.

And so, given that 2023 has come to an end and the dawn of 2024 is upon us, I decided now would be a good time to share some of my favorites from these last three years.

Colorado sunset | January 2021
Snowy sunrise | Colorado | February 2021
Colorado sunset | March 2021
Sunset at Dinosaur National Monument | May 2021
Maroon Bells sunrise | September 2021
Colorado sunrise | November 2021
Colorado sunrise | December 2021
Rocky Mountain National Park sunrise | December 2021
Vedauwoo sunset | Wyoming | June 2022
(I know this post says Colorado, but this one was too pretty to omit)
Rainy sunset over Great Sand Dunes National Park | July 2022
Sunrise over the plains as seen from the slopes of Mount Blue Sky | August 2022
Colorado sunset | September 2022
Sunset at Rocky Mountain National Park | August 2023

Which one is your favorite?

  1. These are all gorgeous, especially the reflections. My favorite is actually the sunrise, where the rays of light are reaching out.

  2. Excellent image captures!

  3. Mountains + sunrises/sunsets will always be my favorite. I think their fleeting nature makes them all the more precious.

  4. Is there anything special about the Colorado sky that creates such spectacular sunrises/sunsets?

    1. In the summer we tend to get afternoon thunderstorms that are sometimes still dissipating in the evening so those remaining clouds catch the light. The rest of the year, I’m not sure what the explanation is, but now I’m curious.

  5. What a stunning collection of shots of the sunrise and sunset.

    1. Thank you!

  6. They are all gorgeous 😍

  15. All great examples Diana. I like the misty snowy morning sunrise. Understated but mezmerising. Happy Thursday. Allan

    1. Thanks Allan! I agree, it’s so different from all the others but one of my favorites as well.

  16. These are so beautiful, Diana, especially the snowy sunrise. We often think of winter as being dull and grey, and there are certainly times when that is the case, but ice and snow can do amazing things with the coloured light at sunrise and sunset. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day. Aiva xx

    1. Thanks, Aiva! The sky was certainly just right that morning to capture the light.

  17. Love the vibrant colors of each photo! Hope you can experience more gorgeous sunsets this year; I have no doubt you will!

    1. Thank you! I sure hope so, I never tire of them.

  18. They are all beautiful photos but, for me at least, there is a clear favourite and that is the one entitled, Maroon Bells sunrise | September 2021. You should have it enlarged, framed and place in a prominate place in your home.

    1. Thank you! One of these days when we have more wall space I’ll definitely be making some prints.

  19. I find it impossible to pick a favorite, Diana. All are breathtakingly beautiful and remind us of the splendor we can experience if we only open our eyes. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thanks, Tanja!
